This was not my first summit of Grays and Torreys. That would have happened back in 2013 shortly after moving to Colorado. On this trip, the road had been taken out by an avalanche. So the hike really started about 1 mile from the official trail head. Though many people choose to hike from I-70 up the road rather than drive on the gnarly but passable dirt/rock road.

On the Trail at the break of dawn and a pretty straight forward hike up to the snow fields. Once there, I chose to traverse across to Torreys Peak first. It felt pretty epic to Be standing in the middle of the snow field with a sweet view and a thousand or so foot drop below. Good times.

On my way down from Grays Peak, there were some tricky snow sections that had me sliding on my ass or wishing I had. Also, there were a few Mountain Goats hanging out near the trail. As these are usually my first two 14ers each year, they always seem to kick my ass.
